glycerol and FOS not considered to be a
carbohydrate on the nutrition label? |

The
reason glycerol and FOS are not considered to be
carbohydrates on the label is that your body
lacks the ability to break them down and derive
any energy from them. FOS is a fiber, and
glycerol (same as glycerine) is a molecule that
is too complex for the body to digest. However,
due to the broad definitions the FDA has
regarding calories and caloric intake, it is
required to add them into the caloric total
(even though you do not derive any significant
calories or energy from them). Thus, we have
that disclaimer to let you know that they are
added into the bar, for your information.
